Simply Press it to start and stop the player. The button can only be pressed when the clock is set to INTERNAL in the General Settings.
Hold the start button to enter tempo mode. This is where the BPM, the SWING, and the preset's custom SCALE can be edited.
• Scroll encoder to highlight one of the options. • Press encoder to edit and confirm.
Note Internal BPM ranges from 1 to 360.
Note BPM, SWING and SCALE are stored per preset.
Swing
SWING delays every second clock pulse, creating a shuffled rhythmic feel.
50% No swing, the timing is straight as each pulse is evenly spaced. 66% Classic triplet groove used in jazz or house music. 75% Heavy shuffle with a strong syncopated feel. 99% Extreme swing, the second pulse almost merges with the next beat.
Tip SWING shapes the CLOCK and EUCLID outputs, and also re-times incoming MIDI notes: while the transport is running, notes falling on the off-beat are delayed so that notes played or routed live groove with the same shuffle as the clock generators.
Scale
SCALE constrains an output's pitch to a user-defined scale, snapping any voltage to the nearest note of that scale.
Editing the Scale
The scale is shown as a twelve-key octave.
• Rotate encoder to move onto a key. • Press encoder to toggle it and include or exclude that pitch class.
By default, all twelve notes are enabled, so the scale has no effect and allows the full chromatic scale through. At least one note must remain active.
Enabling the Scale (per output)
Compatible Output Engines carries there own SCALERON/OFF parameter:
• PITCH output: quantizes the played note to the scale before bend and finetune are applied, so pitch bend still glides smoothly from the snapped note. • LFO output: quantizes its continuous output into stepped voltages, turning smooth modulation into crazy scale–locked–pitchs sequences, thanks to one LFO module. • MOTIF output: as this output is designed to generate algorithmic sequence of notes, the Scaler is enabled by default. • LOGIC output: quantizes the result of the operation, after depth and offset, before the output is clamped.
Note Outputs whose SCALER = OFF ignore the scale entirely. The setting is independent for each output.
Note When a target voltage lands on a pitch class that is not part of the scale, it is snapped DOWN to the nearest active note below it.
Tip You can edit the scale keys in real–time. Because this unique scale will affect all the outputs enabled, it's something you can perform.
External clock sync
Core can follow an external MIDI clock instead of running on its own internal BPM.
Set up
Hold input to open the PRESET page and enter GENERAL SETTINGS.
Set CLOCK to the incoming port: MIDI IN, USB DEVICE, or USB HOST, instead of INTERNAL.
Send a MIDI clock to that port from your DAW, sequencer, or drum machine.
Behavior
Core follows the incoming 24 PPQN clock and its MIDI Start / Stop messages.
The BPM is measured and displayed but can no longer be set by hand.
All tempo-synced outputs run from the external clock.
Swing and the custom scale remain editable locally in tempo page.
Note Under external clock, the start button cannot start the transport and shows EXT CLOCK when pressed. It can still stop the player.
Tip For the tightest sync with a DAW, use USB DEVICE, which has the lowest latency.
